State Begins Efforts on Solutions for Crisis Services

On Monday, December 9 the NC Division of MH/DD/SAS held the first meeting of its newly-formed Crisis Solutions Coalition. NCPA Executive Director Sally Cameron was invited to the meeting and to be part of the year-long project. The effort will focus on cutting the number of mentally ill patients who spend long waits in emergency rooms waiting for behavioral health services, often a bed in a psychiatric facility.

Division Director Dave Richard noted three initiatives which have already started:

  • Shorter, more user friendly Person Centered Plan to be used beginning January 1, 2014
  • An agreement for sharing data with law enforcement
  • Development of a website focused on crisis solutions initiatives to share what is working around the state as well as actual resources for crisis services

Mr. Richard noted that this is not a project to just issue a report, but to find solutions and measure success through data and outcomes.

The initial documents are posted on the home page of the Division’s website.
